Jotul F118 Blackbear Wood Stove
Here is one we do not get very often at the shop. This is the Jotul F118 Blackbear, which was the modern version of the iconic Jotul 118.
Now this modern version did not take off and be quite as popular as the original, but its still a very powerful and capable stove rated for 2000sq/ft.
When the stove was dropped off it was obviously very overdue for repair, with all the insides burnt out and missing the front air-tube and some bricks. But nothing we cant handle during the rebuild.
Now this stove is not a stove I recommend just anyone tries to rebuild, as all the modern internals have about 1/16-1/8″ of clearance to put together. As well as it just being a complex stove.
So first up of course we took the stove apart, shotblasted and inspected all the parts. Then got on the phone to order all the new parts and speciality gaskets this model requires.
After painting all the pieces, and then waiting for the parts to come in. It was time to rebuild and fit with all new cement, gaskets, and hardware.
After everything was said and done, the stove came out beautiful! Both the client and I were very pleased with the results, and they were overjoyed when it came time to get the stove back!
